Perspective

In our discussion, we talked about our interviews with the locals. I feel like this talk really helped me understand and realize how special this community is and really put Guanaja in perspective to the states. Talking to the locals was really fun. Everyone in Mangrove Bight has a story they are willing to share and without a filter and keeping no secrets, because here, everyone is equal and their is no sense of hierarchy in this society. No one cares about the clothes on your back or the shoes on your feet, people here probably don’t know what capital is or socio-economic status is because their is no need to, their is no need for people to prove themselves in any way to the people in this community. They just provide for themselves and their family. They might not know what capital and S-E-S is because of their lack of education, but at the end of the day happiness is all that matters with anyone. People try to hide their shame, misery, and sadness behind the mask of their money but those people will always live a half life until they can understand the true meaning of happiness. They will always be lying and never can get to their full potential hiding behind a mask. These people in Guanaja have no mask. This town and this place is all about perspective. Looking at what they have rather than what they don’t have. Looking at the glass half full rather than half empty. That is something these people have mastered or maybe it’s just all this town has ever known. That is something I would like to take back home to the states and I think we should all try and take back home. Besides the fishing and the amazing aspects of nature. Perspective is what I took away most from my journey to Guanaja, Honduras with some buddies to try and make an impact on the community but thinking back I think they have made a bigger impact on me this week.
